It was a cold and windy day in Rock Island for the Western Big 6 Conference Meet. The Maroons goal for the meet, “compete, and challenge.’ This season for some reason the team had the injury bug. Coach Taylor and Iams could never put a complete healthy team on the field to compete. This was the first time the team would compete as a complete team.
The gun went off and Timothy Knobloch went out with the lead pack. After the first mile Timothy was right behind the lead runner. At the two mile mark Timothy took the lead and he took the lead with authority. Teammates Andrew Levesque, Koffivi Vonor, Conor Dessert, and Conor Sapp were forty to fifty seconds back of the lead pack. Bryce Poston, Aric Fowler, and Tanner McAnally was an additional 35 seconds back. Timothy had a five meter lead with 600 meters left in the race, before he dropped the hammer. After that, it was a power kick to victory lane in a time of (15:50) Teammate Andrew had a nice finishing kick also, however his 10/11 place finish was uncertain. We do know Andrew ran very well finishing the race in a time of (16:40). Teammates Vonor, Conor Dessert and Conor Sapp finished the race in a pack, with times of (16:59), (17:01), and (17:02). Bryce Poston, Aric Fowler and Tanner McAnally had to battle several runners to the end of the finish line with times of (17:12), (17:32) and (17:34).
Congrats to the new Western Big 6 Champion and every team member that ran their personal best today.
