Wow, Maroons Win, Maroons Win!!!! (What just happened) The Lady Maroons just shocked the Quad Cities with this victory. Ms. Lopez was speaking in some type of religious tongue. I couldn’t understand anything that she was saying during the race. It must have worked because the team won the WB6 Championship. Going into this race, it was just too close to call. The team lacked a 5th runner the entire season and coach T emphasized the last month repeatedly we need someone to step-up. Well today out of blue that happened. Lylia Gomez goes out and claims the Individual Championship. (Royal Upset) Emily Lopez runs like she’s possessed, Grace Vinzant, & Grace Shelton sightings – It’s apparent that these two like to give the coaches ulcers during the season, because they like to show up when it’s time for post season. And Maddie Lodico? Coming back from injury, and nothing or nobody was going to keep her from not running in the Western Big 6 today. She’s not 100% healthy, and she’s still in some pain, however she wouldn’t and couldn’t let the team down. It would have been so easy to tell the coaches that she couldn’t run today, but she made a choice to run and she competed. (Leaders are born with this quality) Awesome!!! Coach T’s preparation for the student athlete’s for this race was amazing, but one thing that he saw today that was missing during the season was Heart!!
Next week the team will face state top ten competition teams (Minooka, Lockport & Yorkville. This is what the season is all about – the post season fun and excitement of the competition. The Normal IL course is extremely fast!!!
