Great Job Maroons

I would like to thank all the wonderful parents that come out and cheered on the Maroons.  It was a two hour drive and you came out and supported the boys and girls cross-country teams.  It was some parents first time ever experiencing a cross-country meet for the Maroons.  Thanks again, however one thing to remember, ‘hat, gloves, coat, and a second pair of shoes.’  Think of football or soccer, because you’re outside the entire time.  Thanks to those very special parents that have made it to every meet.
I had one parent ask a very important question at the cross-country meet.  What is coach T, Jill and Sarah, not doing that the other teams are doing because they are so good, ‘Yorkville and Manooka.  Excellent Question (  First off you have to have a great coach and coaching staff -we have that – You have to have athlete’s that will listen and put in the hard work over the summer.’Summer Training Miles.’ -and lastly, many athlete’s participating in the sport.  Many of the top programs have 100 athlete’s out for that sport on the boys and girls teams.  Our team have a total of 20 to 25 runners on the team.  Coach T wouldn’t change anything, because it’s a close family oriented atmosphere and you know every individual personally.  It just makes the team train harder going up against the bigger schools.  Last week was a great example for the guys.  They weren’t given a chance to qualify to the sectional championships, but they did!!  The boys team going into this Sectional Championship had nothing to lose because nobody gave them a chance to make it out of last week Regional Championships.  The team ran very well, however sometimes you may have an off day, and you just hope it’s during the regular season.     ‘ Today the the team ran well, however they were just a little off compared to last weeks Regional Championships.  Jonathan McMillian ran great, and was 30 seconds faster today with a time of 17:30.  Jackson ran great and qualified for the state meet next week with a time of 15:49.   The coaches didn’t know how Jackson would run with his back injury.  (Icy Hot) Jon and Zach had good races, but was just a little off.  Tim Wolf was also a little off today.  Tim went out with the leaders, however it just wan’t his day going  through the 2 1/2  mile mark.  Jackson and Tim had been running together the entire season, and it’s heart breaking to see a teammate such as Tim not qualifying for the state meet when the two runners were practically ajoin  when racing in meets.    This Sectional Championships was one of the toughest of the 5 sectionals.  The winner of this sectional had the fastest winning time out of all the sectionals held today with a time of 14:38.  The cutoff time to make it to state in this sectional championships was 15:53.
